poem: i dream of a bestfriend

(107 words) 17 Jan. 2018

By S.R.A. Markin

when i was a boy
i would dream
of being a super villain
starting crime
and getting away
from you

we played outback
building forts and fires
jumping off roofs
and scrapping our knees
we were invincible
when we were young

i rode your bike, down a hill
straight into your house
bruised, sitting in a pot
you gave me a toy
it was more than enough

we boxed with gloves
slid down stairs
in sleeping bags
and built forts with boxes
destroyed the bases

i dreamt of you, years ago
and when i woke, you were gone
for too long
i wish i were
the hero
instead
