poem: drowning

(90 words) 13 Jan. 2018

S.R.A. Markin

the waves crash above
pushing me below
i fight to breathe
i kick my legs
my hands break the surface
i reach towards
nothing

more heavy waves hit
pushing me further below
my eyes are closed
the opportunity to breathe
is gone
i fight
i fail

the sky above opens
illustrious light spreads
clouds part with power
a surge of noise
then quietness
darkness has cleared
lightly brushed pink clouds
painted throughout a blue sky
my lifeless body is manipulated
down the long river
i am gone
i am hopeless
