“Keep writing.”
“I will.”
“Will you read your poem?”
“I don’t have a nice voice.”
“I love your voice.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Why won’t you read to me?”
“I didn’t know you wanted me to?”
“Why would I have asked?”
“Why are you so upset?”
“I am going to take a shit.”
I hang up and stand in the washroom. I push on my stomach, and I fart. I stand there before calling her back.
“Do you want me to read to you?”
“Of course.”
She reads to me. Her voice is beautiful.
